Fresh from the stream, she applies her warpaint. The damp brush is dipped in the dark ashes of the fire, and swept under and over both her eyelids in a smooth, practiced movement. Another dip, then she pauses. She adjusts her grip on the fragment of mirror in her other hand, then, with a slight grimace of concentration, passes the brush over her cheek. Not lines this time. A different symbol.
For a long while she stares at her reflection, then slowly and carefully puts down the brush and mirror. Breathing heavily, she shuts her eyes as a feeling of warmth creeps over her. It feels… right. And wrong.
It’s only paint. It’s not like… he knows.

She opens her eyes, scanning around the forest clearing, listening for any nearby movement.
Would it matter if he did?

She takes a deep breath as the vision once again fills her mind, and for a few seconds she is lost to it.

She snaps back to reality.

She picks the mirror back up, and with only a slight hesitation, wipes her hand across her face.
